Howard Turnbull Water PlanThe Howard Turnbull water plan for the Murray Darling Basin is more than welcome; we just hope it does not go the way of the National Water Commission which was greeted with similar enthusiasm. The limitation of the State based system has been apparent for many years and while reform and new thinking has been a popular word there has been little change despite the threat from global warming which will eventually force the adoption of arid zone water harvesting technologies. The National Water Initiative was welcomed as a way of injecting some new thinking into how to tackle our water, but unfortunately this has not turned out to be a proactive organisation but rather a passive mechanism for distributing money. |
