Climate Change, Drought and Water Supply

With our dam levels at seriously low levels and water supply threatened, the question in everyone’s mind is, 'Is this just another example of the natural flood and drought cycle or is this global warming'?

Drought Cycle and Global Warming

The answer is simple - both.  We are suffering from a combination of both the drought cycle and global warming.

At some point the current drought will break, it will rain again and the dams will fill. But that is no reason for complacency on water supply. Global warming changes the base line so we will become progressively more arid with more extreme and longer droughts.

We have to learn to adjust to a drier more arid climate and that means adopting arid climate technologies as described in the effect of climate change on water supplies.
