Anna Bligh - 'we're not running out of water'It is a wonderful sight to see a politician working the spin machine as we saw with Queensland Deputy Premier Anna Bligh's 'we are not running out of water' comment. How wonderful for Anna Bligh to be able to sound so confident when the science says exactly the opposite - we are running out of water. If luck holds out the recycling pipe line will be in place and the drought will break so we do not run out of water, at least not this year. However global warming means the arid areas of Australia, (and Brisbane is in the arid zone), will become more arid. Politicians, like Anna Bligh just have to recognise that this is the reality and that steps need to be taken to adjust for climate change. The Government has a variety of action plans which if there were no global warming may provide a secure water supply. But Anna Bligh can no more avert global warming than George Bush, The only option is to accept that this is the reality, that the climate will become more arid and we simply have to start adopting arid climate technologies as described in Water and the Whistle blower – an independent assessment of the effect of global warming on water supplies. |
