Water and climate change

The water crisis affects everyone.
This book is neither politically correct not full of motherhood
statements: it gets to the harsh reality. Who should read this book - any member of the public concerned about the future of our food and water. It is a serious subject but a funny book about thinking holistically. We all know about the water shortages and salinity. But where are the solutions? Your humble author and story teller decided to search for solutions. I knew we needed a new way of thinking about water. The story starts with the creative thinking I employed to build up one of Australia's leading high technology companies. The story continues with the failures and success that lead to the ultimate solutions - such as a way of controlling irrigation depth so no water passes the root zone. While the book is chatty the section on scheduling and use of soil moisture sensing is serious technology.

I tell about the battle of adoption. How economic rationalist believe that any water saved should be used for extra production today rather than securing our future. I wrote a fable showing how our water crisis could be turned to our advantage generating exports from viable agriculture, from the licensing of the technology and creating recreational parks for tourism. Includes 2 DVD's . Price $37.50 inc pp.

Following the theme of the book this
DVD tells the story of how the search started by looking for technical
solutions, but how gradually it became clear that the real issue was how
with think as a community, referred to as communal intelligence.
It describes the development of the wicking bed and how we have to
substitute dam water with water collected locally using technologies for
collecting and storing water locally. It looks at how a small eco villages manages its supply of fresh water and the disposal of waste in a sustainable way.

Global warming has dramatically
escalated the water crisis. Increased evaporation means drier
soils raising the threshold for runoff so our dams are only filled with
large freak rainfalls. Yet the total amount of rainfall is far in
excess of our needs, it is simply falls as small rains which we
currently fail to catch. Australia is not short of rain, it just
has an excess or evaporation. Local communities can readily harvest and use water from these small rains locally so water can be substituted for dam water which should be kept in reserve for extreme conditions.

Looks at the issues of the proposed
Mary River Dam, which is essentially a throw back to the thinking of
yesteryear. This is not just anti dam but rather looking at
alternatives way of managing water which is more consistent with the
problems of increased evaporation and higher thresholds for run off in
our catchments. $10 with the Water, wit and Wisdom package - $15 inc pp separately.
